Foreigner explores Kolkata wetlands 🇮🇳

A 6am start for me in Kolkata to meet up with Shirish who's a local guy from Kolkata. Shirish took me on a 2-3 hour cycle tour around the wetlands of Kolkata, the part of Kolkata that you've probably never seen before. Shirish said that even people from Kolkata don't see the wetlands like this.

It was peaceful, clean, quiet - a huge difference from the city of Kolkata, which is very loud, and super busy.

Does your city have anything really cool like this?

I wanted to see something different whilst in India, rather than just the normal stuff that YouTubers show, so I thought cycling through the wetlands of Kolkata would be a good idea.

We cycled for about 90 minutes in total, not including the time we spent chilling, watching the local Indian fisherman and stuff like that. Shirish was a cool guy who enjoyed showing me around his local area, the part of Kolkata that they don’t show you.

Shirish also explained to me about the sewage system in Kolkata, and how they use this marshland as an eco-system that feeds the land, feeds the people and feeds the wildlife which I found really interesting. It was also cool to see the fishermen bringing in their catches, ready to sell at the fish market in Kolkata that day.

It’s interesting to see that a short bike ride from such a dusty, loud, busy place like Kolkata can get you to a quiet, clean and relaxed place like we found in the Kolkata wetlands.
