Finding Lobster Mushrooms in the Wild- in August!!

In this video Aaron Hilliard, Vice President of the Mycological Society and citizen mycologist takes us on a walk into the forest of the Pacific Northwest to discover beautiful Lobster mushrooms (Hypomyces lactiflorum) growing wild among the plants and trees.
This is a very sought after wild edible culinary delight and is very easy to identify due to its unique look and bright color. It is actually two different, less desirable fungi growing in combination to create what we know as the lobster mushroom. It consists of as host mushroom with here in the Western US is known as Russula brevipies, a common and fairly boring, and large mushroom that grows in association with the conifer trees here, which then becomes parasitized by a different fungus known as hypomyces lactiflorum, which contorts and turs the Russula bright orange to red with hues of purple.
This mushroom can sell in markets for $40 per lb and is very popular even among new foragers because of its easily identifiable characteristics.
