OCTANE is REAL! - The new Ridgid OCTANE tools combine with the OCTANE batteries have been proving that the tools will be a force to be reckoned with.  Is this a small showing of what the future holds for all tools or is TTI taking the Ridgid platform to a new Pro-User level?  However this will work out, the users, you and I, are the ones who are benefiting from these tool wars.  If you are a Ridgid fan because of the tool performance or the Lifetime Service Agreement, the new OCTANE tools breath a new performance life into tools that were pretty darn good to start with.  Some of the new Ridgid tools are outperforming the top tier tools!

The OCTANE tools we have tested have been great performers with very little changing in the tool.  This new Ridgid Octane Angle Grinder does have one LED light that is a change from the norm.  This red LED light flashes to let you know that you are close to the overload area on the tool.  The problem we have with it is not the message, but the timing of the message.  In our use, the message was given to us much too often and in many cases too soon.  We could continue to push the tool harder and harder and still not run into a timeout.  when the tool did timeout, it was very nice to see the light letting us know we pushed the tool a bit too hard.

Overall, this is a very powerful battery operated angle grinder.  We were able to do a lot of different operations with the grinder that would stress other grinders without the Ridgid even sweating.  This was awesome to see as angle grinders have been on the low end of power in the battery operated world up until recently.

What Would We Change?
We would change very little with this angle grinder.  The power and runtime is in check.  There is an awesome guard that will rotate easily.  The grip is narrow and comfortable.  This tool looks a lot like the Milwaukee M18.  The only item that seems to come up is the blinking LED light.  The GREAT news here is that you can easily cover that light up if you do not want to see it.

We firmly believe that many Ridgid tool fans will be thrilled with this new angle grinder and many more people will come and purchase Ridgid because of the new OCTANE tools.  If you have not purchased a new 6.0 Octane battery, even if you do not have an OCTANE tool yet, you are missing out.  No matter how you feel about the OCTANE tools, know that they are legit and will be pushing other tool manufacturers to up their game!
