The Brazilian National Anthem.

The Brazilian National Anthem is one of the four official symbols of the Federative Republic of Brazil,
as established in art. 13, § 1, of the Constitution of Brazil. The other symbols of the Republic are the
National Flag, the National Arms and the National Seal.

Part I

The placid margins of the Ipiranga 1 heard
The resounding shout of a heroic people,

And the sun of freedom, in radiant rays,
Shined in the sky of the motherland in that instant.

If the pledge of this equality
We have conquered with a strong arm,

In your bosom, oh freedom,
Our chest defies the very death!

Oh beloved Motherland,
Idolized,
Hail! Hail!

Brazil, an intense dream, a lively ray
Of love and hope comes down to earth,

If in your beauteous, laughing and limpid sky

Giant by your own nature,
You're handsome, you're strong, an intrepid colossus,

mirrors this greatness.

Laying eternally on a splendid cradle,
By the sound of the sea and the light of deep sky,

You fulgurate, oh Brazil, America's ornament,
Backlighted by the sun of the New World!

Your laughing, pretty fields have more flowers
Than the smuggest land;

"Our woods have more life",
"Our life" in your bosom "more loves."

Oh beloved Motherland,
Idolized,
Hail! Hail!

Brazil, let it be a symbol of eternal love,
The flag you hold, starry,

And let the laurel-green of this pennon say:

-"Peace in the future and glory in the past."

But if you raise the strong club of justice,
