Join me Robin on the Road, Your Concierge for all things travel, as I take you on an in-depth tour of Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson, our third President, Governor of Virginia, builder of the University of Virginia and writer of the Declaration of Independence. Through pictures and videos, I will take you from room to room and tell you the history of the men and women who made Monticello work. I will show you the kitchens, dairy, smokehouse and icehouse and tell you about the amazing stories of the enslaved we know through the "Getting Word Oral History Project." We will learn about the relationship between Jefferson and Sally Hemmings, but also learn about the other members of the Hemmings family and their lives at Monticello. We will walk Mulberry Row, the location of the stables, slave cabins, textiles, wood trades and the blacksmith shop. You can learn about the Levy family, whose desire to preserve the history of our third President will last for 90 years. We will walk the gardens and talk about Jefferson's desire to understand horticulture and botany still thrive today and lastly; I will show you the final resting place of Thomas Jefferson and his family. MY Things to know section will give you the inside scoop on the hours of operation, prices, tours along with hotel and dining recommendations. I also include the Saunders-Monticello trail, Jefferson Vineyards and Michie Tavern, so you can be a better-informed traveler. So, let Your Concierge for all things travel help you include Monticello for your next road trip. I hope to see you out there until then safe travels!

Dining was at Jack Browns, try the Gregg Brady located in Downtown Charlottesville.
There are three location s to park for the Saunders-Monticello trail, at the bottom of the mountain, there is also the Kemper lot after you turn left to head up the mountain or you can park for free at the visitor center and for a walk down the mountain.
Michie Tavern is located on the drive up the mountain. They only serve fried chicken with several different sides. I highly recommend reservations.

Photos and videos are all taken by Robin on the Road. My information came from the interpretive signs located and Monticello and from "Monticello the Official Guide to Thomas Jefferson's World produced by the National Geographic Society and Thomas Jefferson's Monticello.
