Hook: Mustad 3399, #4-#14
Thread: Danville 6/0, Black & White
Tail: Goose Quill, Red
Rib: Danville Silver/Gold Mylar Tinsel, #14
Body: Danville 4-Strand Rayon Floss, Red
Hackle: Schlappen, White
Wing: Goose Quill, Red & White
The Lake George is a wonderful wet fly for tying if you want to start working on married and matched wings. The fly in the video is tied on a #4 hook and goose shoulder and quill work very well for the tail and the wing. I find Goose a little easier to work with especially if you are learning a new technique. However, if you are tying these on size 8, 10 or 12 hooks then Duck would do fine for the wing. I would still stick with the goose shoulder for the tail. The wing is simple enough with a thin red stripe in the middle.
The Lake George is a good fly for clear(er) waters. If the waters are muddy or stained very dark the white in the wings will tend to blend in with the surrounding waters. The red in the wing and the body/tail add a nice contrast to the white in the throat and the wing. Even if the fly is a few feet deep it will catch the fishes eye. An all round productive fly for both cold and warmwater species. - Enjoy
