WHAT IS SEEKING AS OPPOSED TO BELIEVING? Satsang with Anthony Nayagan.

In the previous discussion;

We talked about miracles and spiritual seeking.

Today we will talk about Seeking and Believing.

Church & Miracles:

• Church is not able to validate and prove the miracles of Jesus
• I always had a question – why the people who witnessed and benefitted from the miracles did not show up and defend Jesus?
• There could be a few reasons why;
• Perhaps people are used to prophets and saintly people doing miracles
• Perhaps people expected more from a Messiah than performing miracles
• Perhaps people failed to look beyond signs and wonders

When Jesus went to Bethany, Martha comes to receive Him
• Martha says to Jesus, ‘Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.’
• Then they enter into a theological discussion –
• 23Jesus said to her, ‘Your brother will rise again.’
• 24Martha said to him, ‘I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.’
• 25Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, 26and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?’
• 27She said to him, ‘Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one coming into the world.’
• Very deep and profound discussion
• Martha was a Believer!

Then enters Mary into the Scene:

• 32Mary knelt at his feet and said to him, ‘Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.’
• In the words Mary and Martha said to Jesus, there is no difference
• When Jesus saw Mary weeping, 35He also wept
• Weeping over a dead is traditional and cultural among the Jewish people during those days.
• Neighbors, family members and friends gather together and weep
• It often goes on for days
• Even if the Gospel does not say, “Martha wept”; there is no reason to believe she did not.
• Tears of Martha did not make Jesus weep
• Tears of Mary did
• Mary is a Seeker, always a Seeker !
• Jesus has a special relationship with the seekers

Seeking leads to Spiritual Enlightenment

• Belief does not
• Jesus left us a culture of seeking
• After Constantine took over and institutionalized the Church, that culture was reduced to almost nothing.
• Besides;
• Anyone can seek spirituality and enlightenment, but
• Spiritual Enlightenment is a special calling
• In Spiritual Enlightenment, we are an entangled being of God on Earth.
• Jesus says, ‘Very truly, I tell you, the Son can do nothing on his own, but only what he sees the Father as doing; for whatever the Fatherdoes, the Son does likewise. (John 5:19)
• This is Jesus being an entangled being of God

Seekers don’t seek knowledge

• They are after all knowing.
• Ordered perceptions and knowledge are not relevant to knowing
• Knowing is wholesomeness – it is not ordered based on duality based logic and order
• Knowing is not about the past or the future – it is always the present moment
• Knowing is not intelligence
• Knowing is the experience of Divine Emotions
• Knowing is the Wisdom of God
• Human knowledge is foolishness to God: the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. (1 Corin 3:19)
