What the He** Happened at the CISD Board Meeting with Melissa Dungan

It’s 2023 folks. The Muckrakers are back! We want to wish you a happy new year and want to thank you for returning. We are working hard to bring you some great content.
This episode of The Muckrakers, we bring you Melissa Dungan who currently sits at position 2 on the Conroe Independent School District’s Board of Trustees. On January 17th through January 18th (yes, the meeting was that long), the board discussed several contentious topics. One of which was a book that discusses concerning subject matter within its text. On one side of the discussion are those who wish to keep the book available for minors. On the other side are a concerned group of parents and citizens that believe this book has topics meant for a more mature audience.

2) Does this violate Texas penal code?
3) Does this violate US law?
4) Do you agree with the Board’s decision (both decisions on the book in question)?
5) Should the book in question be pulled from the school entirely? Or should the book be taught in high school courses (say 15-year-old children*)?
6) Is there anything else you saw that needs addressing?
There seems to be some who want to cast stones… and all too quickly. We must follow the saying “He Who Is Without Sin Cast the First Stone.” If we do not understand something, we must have patience, approach the source of concern with care and respect, and understand the bigger picture. We have to trust those we put trust in. Have a dialog. Care. Enjoy each other’s company. And most of all, take the win! A statement within the CISD meeting by a friend of the Muckrakers was “What Would Jesus Do?” That holds true here.
