Russian T-90M main battle tank in action on the Donbass front lines | Ukraine War

The Russian Ministry of Defense is very actively introducing new equipment into the zone of a special military operation.

The T-90 main battle tanks were mainly used on the Donbass front lines. In December, tank columns, including with T-90Ms, were spotted moving towards the Ukrainian front lines. According to some Russian reports, the Russian military in Ukraine received about 200 new and upgraded T-90M tanks in the last months of 2022. In January, the advanced tanks were already deployed in the Kherson and Zaporozhie regions.

According to unconfirmed reports, the Wagner PMCs also have an unknown number of T-90s in their service.

The T-90M tank was developed as part of the Breakthrough-3 development work and is an advanced modernized model of the T-90 which has improved combat and operational characteristics. During the modernization, a new turret module with a 125 mm cannon of increased survivability and accuracy was installed on the T-90M. A remote-controlled 12.7-mm machine gun is mounted on the turret. The new tank is equipped with a highly automated digital fire control system that provides search, recognition, auto-tracking and target destruction. The T-90M is equipped with a third-generation “Relict” dynamic protection system and elements of the “Afghanit” complex.
