Details the photographs taken by Maxime Du Camp. Historic documentation of his journey though Egypt. The images are breathtaking.
He struggled with paper photography and in two years of work he lost half his images. His words, "If, some day, my soul is condemned to eternal damnation, it will be in punishment for the rage, the fury the vexation of all kinds cause me by my photography."
He traded in his camera for ten feet of gold-embroidered damask fabric that he'd use to decorate his Parisian home. His plan was to make a 'sofa fit for kings.'
