Cattle mutilation, also referred to as bovine excision or unexplained livestock death, is the killing and cutting of cattle in a strange, usually bloodless way. This has also been observed in other animals such as sheep, horses, goats, pigs, rabbits, cats, dogs, bison, deer and elk, with similar bloodless cuts often being made to ears, eyes, jaw, tongue, lymph nodes, genitals, and rectum. Different explanations have been given for this phenomenon, including natural decomposition, predation, cults, secretive government and military agencies, and even cryptid predators and extraterrestrial beings. The subject of animal mutilation has been investigated by federal agencies in the United States.
