Khlong Suan 100 Years Market - Traditional Canal Side Market Outside of Bangkok

The Khlong Suan 100 Years Market was established as a canal side trading center by the Thai Chinese Community early in the 20th century. The market is positioned on what was the main waterway into Bangkok from the east at the border between 3 provinces which afforded the market stall owners a high turnover of passing trade.

Khlong Suan 100 Years Market is a traditional market located on Khlong Suan canal about 29 km to the east of Suvarnabhumi airport on the border of three provinces; Chachoengsao, Samut Prakan and Chon Buri.

The Khlong Suan 100 Years Market is very popular with Thai tourists but receives few foreign visitors in part because it is difficult to get there from central Bangkok. There are also few tour operators running organized tours here for foreign visitors. The more famous floating markets and crocodile farms are more likely to appear on tour group itineraries than the Khlong Suan 100 Year Market.

Times have changed and roads have superseded canals as the main form of transport between Bangkok and the eastern provinces. The market has adapted to new circumstances by not changing at all. The market has stayed pretty much as it was 100 years ago with the traditional Thai Chinese shops selling much of the same things as they did when it opened.

The market is worth a visit. It’s not easy to get to but much less touristy than the floating markets to the west.
