It is becoming increasingly evident that some 12,800 years ago fragments of an enormous comet entered the earth's atmosphere and collided with the North American ice cap. The impact explosions, each one many times more powerful than an atomic bomb and generating temperatures equivalent to the surface of the Sun, instantly liquidated the glacial ice and sent millions of cubic miles of fresh water rushing into the sea.

Mountainous tsunamis generated from massive earthquakes and collapsing ice walls swallowed up the islands in their path and swept across the coastal plains as the oceans rose precipitously, engulfing every continent in a catastrophic flood. A chain reaction of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions was triggered around the globe. The superheated ejecta from the impacts and the red-hot lava spewing from volcanoes ignited and inferno of wildfires that consumed 10 percent of the planet's vegetation and exuded so much ash into the atmosphere that it blotted out the Sun and fell back to the ground in torrents of black rain.
