Climate activists gathered in Lutzerath, Germany, on Saturday, January 14, to protest against the expansion of a opencast lignite mine that would require the demolition of the town.

Greta Thunberg posted from the site on January 13, saying she would attend the protest and that people in the area had opposed the expansion “for years.”

According to German media outlet Bild, German police physically removed Thunberg and other protesters from the site on January 15, after they refused to comply with a police request to leave the area.

Footage captured by Tim Vollert shows activists gathered at the mine site on Saturday.
