Desolate Nevada-Episode One: Ancient Rock Art & Hackberry Spring Hike

For the first episode in this new series we introduce ourselves to the Mormon Mountain Wilderness of Southern Nevada! This is a remote, rugged part of Nevada that actually has lots of opportunity for adventure. This particular hike totals out around five miles round trip and requires walking through sandy/gravel wash to the back of a canyon where Hackberry Spring is. The walk up to the Spring is gradual and I think the total elevation gain is around 1400ft or so. We did this hike at the end of October so temps were tolerable however we were swarmed by flies but luckily they didn't bite.
As you begin the hike it's pretty easy to find the cave and petroglyphs, the pictographs are on the left/south side of the canyon wall right after the cave.
PLEASE SEE: Rock Art in the desert is extremely fragile and irreplaceable. Some of the images/carvings could be thousands of years old. The utmost respect should be had when visiting sites such as this. Don't touch the images/carvings...admire from some distance. A little respect goes a long way!
