This is a sweet story of Maya, who one day loses her voice and can't speak at school until she regains it later. A childhood anxiety disorder causes an actual condition called Selective Mutism. This is an excellent story for all elementary-aged children.

Selective Mutism (SM) is a childhood anxiety disorder characterized by a child's inability to speak in public settings, such as school, despite speaking entirely at home. Children with SM are often perceived as shy, rude, or defiant and seldom receive the support they need to overcome anxiety. SM is not something that children outgrow, and early intervention is crucial. Without the proper help, SM can lead to future social and emotional problems.
