Long Track Workout for 5K training

This video is a long track workout during the early stages of 5K training and 10K training. It is 25 x 400m with 30 seconds standing recovery. Starting at somewhere between 5K and 10K pace and getting down to around 1500m pace for the last few 400m reps.

400m repeats are a classic workout that can be done in many variations. The 30 seconds rest is a great way to get a lot of volume in at a good pace, whilst still working on your aerobic system. I believe any short recovery or jog recovery sessions have a larger benefit on aerobic fitness. Whilst still giving you the ability to get down to faster paces. 400m repeats can be used for 800m runners all the way to the marathon, so it is a great versatile workout for all runners.
