Pre Classic Diamond League World Records?!

Prefontaine classic Diamond League

We’re on World record watch at the Preclassic with many official record attempts. However, we believe it’s forecast rain and wind so if the weather comes through as forecast then records are looking unlikely. But before we get into it be sure to comment your predictions and to our 4 previous giveaway winners from the last prediction contest, you’ll hear from us today in regards to the prizes.

Women’s 2 Mile – Niyonsaba is the one marketed to attempt this record of… But Sifan Hassan was a late entry so realistically that’s potentially two runners who could break the record.

Women’s 5000m – Gidey who already holds the WR is going for it again. I wouldn’t be surprised if she becomes the first woman to run sub 14:00, but if that will happen at the preclassic only time will tell.

Men’s 5000m – controversial as Joshua Cheptegei goes to break his own WR of 12:35 whilst possibly other WR standard runners in Jacob Kiplimo and Belew Aregawi are in the diamond league race the day after. It would be nice to see them all race together in a WR attempt but saying that Cheptegei is the current record holder, so I guess he has priority.

And lasty the Men’s mile featuring Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Timothy Cheriyout, Abel Kipsang, Cooper Teare and many more World class athletes, is not a WR attempt, so for getting you hopes up, but regardless this race on the Saturday will be a really interesting one because it features Olympic gold and silver medallist in the 1500m as well as the person who’s looked the best this year in Abel Kipsang. Jakob only started specific track training two weeks ago so if he wins this then I have no words… It’s also interesting because Cooper Teare joked about a rivalry between himself and Ingebrigtsen, which Ingebrigtsen jokingly replied saying how it isn’t a rivalry. Implying Jakob is in a class above. Regardless of whether the main race will be between Cooper and Jakob it’ll be exciting to see how fast Cooper can go, as well as another Athlete in highschooler Colin Sahlman.
