Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) stated on Thursday's episode of "CNN This Morning" that she voted against the Chinese Communist Party select committee because it is "simply a committee that will further empower anti-Asian speech and bigotry and put lives at risk." Additionally, the government currently has enough resources to deal with the problems the committee would study.

"One area where we have seen some cooperation this week is on the new committee that has [formed] focused on China and the United States' competition with China," co-host Kaitlan Collins questioned. Despite the fact that many Democrats supported that committee, you actually voted against it. Describe your reasoning for not voting.

Pressley retorted, "I voted no because, once more, this is a fake effort. It is very evident that this committee serves only to fuel anti-Asian prejudice, incite hatred, and endanger lives. We don't need this select committee since we have adequate infrastructure and governance to deal with those problems. And because of my concern that it will encourage bigotry and anti-Asian rhetoric, I voted against it.

Collins subsequently inquired as to the Democrats who supported the committee. "We just view it differently," Pressley retorted.
