The BBC Radio adaptation of an unproduced screenplay by Alexander MacKendrick and Jay Presson Allen, made as part of BBC Radio 4's UNMADE FILMS series and co-starring Dame Glenda Jackson, who starred as Elizabeth I both on television and in the 1971 film Mary Queen of Scots.

The year is 1566, the most turbulent year of the life of Mary Queen of Scots. Scotland is being ripped apart by civil war and religious conflict, and two countries - England and Scotland - are about to collide. And right at the heart of all this conflict stands the 23-year-old Mary Stuart, now seven months pregnant and caught in a web of plot, counter plot, treachery and betrayal. Now she must use every bit of intelligence and every skill at her disposal to maintain her position as Queen ... but her secret affair with the Earl of Bothwell may either make her or destroy her ...
