Collin Gow, C.N.C. goes foraging at a nature preserve for the psychoactive mushroom, Peach Fly Agaric, aka Amanita persicina. This mushroom is the edible southeastern version of the iconic Fly Agaric mushroom, aka Amanita muscaria. A. muscaria is the red and white mushroom appearing in the Mario video games. This mushroom, along with the indigenous shamans who used it around the winter solstice, was the primary inspiration for the colors and story of Santa Claus and his eight reindeer delivering gifts on Christmas. Will Collin find the Florida version of the Fly Agaric of lore? Come along while Collin finds and discusses many wild, edible, medicinal plants, fungi, and lichen on his walk, and talks about nature-based winter solstice traditions and the consumption of this magic mushroom. Identification (morphology, phenology, etc.), health, nutrition, botany, mycology, phytochemistry, ethnopharmacology, traditional, Native American (American Indian), and biological actions and uses of plants, fungi, and lichen are casually discussed.
