Oak Hill Church of Christ preaching minister, Randy Sterling, delivers a message on the value of a person and their choices for good and for evil.

Much ink has been spilled on the endless quest for man's meaning and value. What can someone do in order to leave a lasting mark on life? What can someone do in order to 'matter'?

There is a great fear that hangs over the lives of many people: that they will pass from this world without having done anything of value; anything worth remembering by others. This fear has certainly lead to a great many awful things, because man's quest for self-worth spends too much time on the self and too little on God.

God's calculus for the worth of one of His children does not rest in the completion of some grand structure or the borders of a sweeping empire. It rests in the courage to steadfastly choose what is right and what is good in every small thing. Your value lies in taking a firm grasp of each of your daily actions, and ensuring that they are done in a Godly way, and reject evil at every turn.

In the Old Testament, Josiah had the courage to reject wickedness and immorality in a time when they were highly valued by everyone who appeared to matter. Instead, Josiah desired that his actions would create a lasting transformation toward Good and away from Evil. This he did not accomplish through rousing speech or massive government works project. He accomplished it by slowly and methodically destroying the sources of evil wherever he found them, and placing the one true source of Good in their place. In doing so he built for himself a great legacy we still read about today as one of the very few good kings who ruled rightly according to God.

Consider following his example in your own life, slowly, little by little.
