Oak Hill Church of Christ 10-2-22 Message: "An Epidemic of Spiritual Amnesia"

Oak Hill Church of Christ preaching minister, Randy Sterling, delivers a message on the importance of recalling the nature of God before we call on Him.

The world is replete with individuals who claim to have a "close" or "deep" "relationship" with God. Suspiciously, the 'god' they describe is long on his acceptance of whatever they approve of, and short on whatever they do not. This convenient 'small-g' god is more an avatar of their own will than the Holy Creator of the universe.

Many people may find themselves being led astray by a simple failure to understand God's true nature and purpose before they attempt to reach out to Him. They assume that God is like them. That He is flawed, makes mistakes, forgets, loses patience, loses focus, and shifts allegiances.

Because their vision of God is so much like them, they simply assume that God will not only tolerate their behavior but condone it. They believe that the Almighty Creator of all things asks no respect or deference. In short, they have come to forget everything that would make God God because it interferes with the way they prefer to see Him.

Christians should consider an opportunity to revisit God and His Holy nature and examine whether their relationship with Him is one that offers God the appropriate deference and respect which is due. They may wish to consider also whether their spiritual walk with God involves the 'god' which suspiciously agrees with everything they think, or whether they are willing to change their thoughts in order to think what God commands.

One of these choices is the behavior of one worshipping God.
