This is the moment customs inspectors find a real-life snake and a lizard at an airport after being wrapped up in tinfoil and put in a lunch box to disguise them as a snack.

Two snakes and three lizards had reportedly been hidden in the plastic container in empty snack bags and tin foil apparently to make it look like a passenger's DIY in-flight lunch.

But - as this footage shows - when customs officers at Israel's Ben Gurion Airport searched the packages, they found snakes and lizards hidden inside, with one even found in a pair of socks.

The suspect has not been named but is reportedly in his 20s.

Newsflash obtained a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Israel saying that the rescue took place "thanks to cooperation between the inspectors of the Ministry of Agriculture, the customs director, the nature and parks authority and the border guard."

Local media reported that the man was on a return flight to Israel from Hungary and that he was arrested several days ago and faces up to two years in prison.

The authorities said that the smuggled animals would be returned to their country of origin.
