We Got Our 1st EVER Game For a Retro SEGA SYSTEM!

In this episode, I get something that I've never gotten before from the team at Video Games Monthly in our blind grab bag, a game type and Retro Sega system that I've wanted to collect for a long time!

The team at video games monthly do an amazing job providing fun additions to your retro video game collection. They offer games for systems such as the original Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo, N64, Sega Genesis, Master System, Xbox, and more. I have currently subscribed to the $ 34.99-a-month plan which nets me three total games. For the month of January 2023, I let them know that I wanted to receive games for the Nintendo Famicom and the Sega Master System, and they sure delivered this month.

Video Games Monthly allows you to request games from systems such as the Intellivision, ColecoVision, Atari 2600, original Nintendo, Super Nintendo, even up to the most recent last Gen systems such as the Wii U, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. They have a list of games in which you can input what titles are already in your library, and you can also message them with special requests. For example, I don't want any RPGs, and others have messaged them to let them know they don't want any sports games. You can also customize what systems you want them to send you games for each month. For this month, I selected that I'd like to receive games from the Sega Master System and the Nintendo Famicom.

My thoughts:
This box is all about one game, My hero. This is the first time I've ever gotten a Sega card game, either as a standalone purchase or in a VGM box. This is absolutely amazing, especially when I looked up the value. See, there are two different versions of my hero. There's a cartridge version that goes for about $17, still a decent value. The Sega card version, however, it's a $38 game! Now it's not complete, so it doesn't have that full value, but I'd say this is a 25 to $35 game easily.

The overall cleanliness of the games was pretty decent. I did break out the bright boy for Thunder Blade, just because some of the pens looked a little extra grody to me. Beyond that, I simply used one-up cleaning cards on the Famicom games and I was ready to play.

What do you think of our box this month? I am absolutely thrilled that I now have a Sega card game in my collection. I can only play this through actual hardware, however, as I do not have a Sega Power Base converter. Plus, my JVC X'EYE isn't compatible with the PowerBase converter. I'm a little bummed out that I got a Dragon Ball z game as I could have sworn that I told him I wasn't interested in those in the past, but I will go ahead and update my preferences with them moving forward.

How do you add to your collection of games? We don't have Goodwills locally here which sells games in-store, they ship them all to a central distribution center to sell online. I've never had great luck going to local rummage sales, but we do have the Bloomington-Normal GameCon, which will become the Illinois GameCon in 2023. Adding amazing titles such as these, for a $35 investment plus shipping I got over $60 in games, it's a great way to collect.
