Never compete with anybody. Guess what happens when you do it. The best you can do is the best the best guy around you can possibly do. And that's it. You cannot go beyond that, but it doesn't mean that there is nobody else doing something better or in a better manner. That's the problem with it. So don't compete with anybody. Just keep looking at how good you are and how you were the last month or last week and can you make that guy look timid in front of you at this moment. That's the whole reason why Vegeta never surpassed Goku because he was always just competing with the Goku. The best he could do was to be as good as Goku, but Goku never competed with Vegeta. And that is the whole reason why he was always a step beyond Vegeta.
