M3GAN was released in theaters nationwide on Jan. 6 and grossed over $11.7 million in box office sales. According to a recent report from Variety, M3GAN is projected to rake in somewhere between $17 million to $20 million by the end of its opening weekend. While Avatar: The Way of Water is expected to hold on to its top spot, M3GAN is certainly fast on its heels. The film has already done better than projected as the project is already expected to succeed in making more than the 12 million it cost to produce it.

If you've been living under a rock and don't know what M3GAN is about, allow us to fill you in. M3GAN is a life-sized robotic doll designed by a state-of-the-art toy company headed by its designer Gemma. M3GAN serves as a best friend and confidante to a little girl named Cady, who is recently orphaned and living under the care of her aunt Gemma. M3GAN is initially everything a guardian could hope for: she is attentive, playful, and protective over her ward. Then one day, things take a drastic turn for the worse when Gemma makes the unfathomable decision to link her M3GAN prototype with Cady so that she can devote more time to her work as a roboticist. M3GAN then becomes unmanageable and destroys anyone she perceives as a threat to herself and Cady.

M3GAN was directed by Gerard Johnstone and stars Allison Williams as Gemma, Brian Jordan Alvarez as Cole, Ronny Chieng as David Lin, and Violet McGraw as Caddy.
