Scientists Create Stab-Proof, Self-Healing Robot

Humanity’s thirst for vengeance continued today, as scientists invented a robot that can be repeatedly stabbed for their own amusement. The eggheads at New York’s Cornell University have invented a weird starfish looking thing that can not only sense when it has been stabbed, but also try and wiggle away, before later healing its own wounds so the cycle of horror can begin anew. The robot’s ‘skin’ is made from a special polyurethane polymer than will spontaneously reform when exposed to air, and the robot can use a series of fiber-optic sensors to ‘see’ when it has been hurt, and is programmed to move away from the knife-wielding mad scientists while it heals (which only takes about a minute).

The new tech will have applications not just in robotics, but also for people in many dangerous environments, such as self-healing spacesuits and parachutes. It will also enable longer-lasting, more durable robots for future warfare applications.
