The WWI era Artillery Luger is a classic turn of the century handgun. The 9mm Luger was an elegant pistol that used a toggle locking system. While the design would survive in German military service until after WWII, the toggle lock system would die out in favor of more simple and reliable designs like that used on the Browning 1911.
