Chronological Bible in a Year 2023 - January 4, Day 4 - Job 1-5

Welcome to Day 4, January 4th, 2023. We read Job 1-5, where we begin the story of the righteous and blameless Job, who suffers infliction as a test for his faith and worship of God.

In the chronological reading of the Bible, this is the first time we deviate out of Genesis. Job is set by many Bible scholars to take place around the time of the patriarchal period, contemporary to Abraham. Some of the points used for this conclusion we read in today's reading are Job offered sacrifices to God for him and his children, not going through a priest (Job 1:5), Job's wealth was measured in his livestock, not precious metals (Job 1:3), Job was not an Israelite, nor were his friends. Job lived in Uz (Job 1:1).
