Frankie and Albert - Two Finger Banjo - Murder Ballad

Frankie and Albert is a folk song. Also known as Frankie and Johnny. It`s a murder ballad. I played it on the mountain banjo, two finger thumb lead cause my clawhammer is in for repairs. I`ll post a guitar version too. Nora Brown absolutely kills this song and my version though a little different is heavily inspired from hers. She has a couple versions posted. One outside with the birds chirping and another in a Brooklyn church which might even be better.

Frankie and Albert - lyrics
Banjo tuning: F# DEAD (relative)

Frankie and Albert were sweethearts, everybody knows
She spent a hundred dollars for Albert`s a suit of clothes
He was her man but he done her wrong

Frankie went to the barroom, didn`t buy no beer
Said Mr. Bartender has my Albert been here
He was her man but he done her wrong

Now I ain`t gonna tell no stories
I ain`t gonna tell no lies
Albert was here an hour ago with a girl called Nelly Bly
He was your man but he done you wrong

Frankie went out walking, didn`t go for fun
Underneath her little red coat she had a forty one
She killed her man, cause he done her wrong

She came up to the house, didn`t make no sound
Looking thru the window glass, saw Albert in Nelly`s arms
He was her man but he done her wrong

First time she shot him he staggered, second time she shot him he fell
Third time she shot him he fell back on his heel
He was her man but he done her wrong

Roll me over doctor, roll me nice and slow
Roll me on my left side, my right side hurts me so
I was her man but I done her wrong

Frankie went out walking, late one Summer`s night
Judge said to Frankie you`re gonna be justified
You killed your man, but he done you wrong
