Florida Adventure Trail | Ep 2 | Epic Beach Camping at Shired Island Campground

What an amazing campground. We ended out first day on the Florida Adventure Trail (F.A.T.) by staying just off the trail at Shired Island Campground. It was an amazing place to chill out, site by the fire, and enjoy the sunset!

Located within the boundaries of the Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge, Shired Island Park comprises just over 3 acres owned and operated by Dixie County. The Shired Island Campground offers 12 hookup spots for RV'ers, with or without electricity. Tent campers are also welcome. All camping spots are first-come first-served. No reservations are accepted. Each evening an employee of the parks department comes by to collect the camping fee.

We stayed here in December during a cold spell, and it couldn't have been a better time. The campground is right on the beach along the salt marshes. This being the case, it can be prone to no see-ums and mosquitos. During our stay, they were not to be found!

We also lucked out by having a clear day. This allowed us to see a most amazing sunset. The colors were awesome and the sound of the waves were the cherry on top! Once the sun went down, the stars came out in full force and were quite the show.

The campsites were great for the two Colorado AEV Bisons to set up camp. @OverWaterOverLand with their roof top tent, and us with our ground tent.

We slept like a rock, and waking up to the view of the Gulf of Mexico was epic.
