Halo 3 (2007) was developed by Bungie and published by Microsoft Game Studios

Out of all possible ratings: Terrible, Bad, Average, Good, Great....

My rating, based upon my playthrough experience, is: Great!

The last hurrah before a major paradigm shift in the FPS gaming sphere,
Halo 3 offers a superb old school shooter gameplay experience before CoD took over as king. Halo 3 fails on no fronts; all of it's various gameplay modes are great, and still fun to play to this day. You can blast away the Covenant alone, via split screen, or online in the campaign, or pit your skills against other Spartans in multiplayer, which was the first to include the Forge that allowed you to create your own maps. It would be difficult to find a more robust, well-rounded game from this time period.

The campaign concludes the story of the Master Chief starting with the events of Halo 1. You will be introduced to new enemy types, new weapons, equipment, vehicles, and locations as you make your way to the end. There are plenty of jaw dropping experiences to be had! The narrative is well crafted, and moves the gameplay along nicely, with a nearly perfect flow. The combat has the series' unique humor and action, occasionally allowing for goofy moments usually associated with the grunt's behavior.

The multiplayer is alive and well within the Master Chief Collection and I suggest you try it! It takes some getting used to, but Halo 3 multiplayer is a blast!

Now, onto the ratings breakdown:

Graphics: Light shafts, environments, explosions, character models, set pieces, everything looks great, minus the faces. I can handle some ugly faces with all the beauty surrounding said ugly faces. Halo 3 was a graphical powerhouse when released, and still looks good now. Some games visually stand the test of time for various reasons, such as art direction or emphasis on photorealism, and the blend put into Halo keeps it looking good! Minus those faces.... :-O

Controls: Superb. The only game at that time matching the great feel of Halo 3's controls was Call of Duty 2. Everything from button layout to sensitivity settings works wonderfully and takes minimal adjustment to tune to your liking.

Gameplay: Great! The campaign is one ride that just keeps on giving without a dull moment and ends wonderfully! You will slay hordes of Covenant, Flood, and Sentinels in your quest to stop the Prophet, and you will do it with a variety of weapons and vehicles that are all fun to use. The multiplayer is a mix of standard and non-standard games modes that will likely have something to suit every player.

Sound: If sound isn't done right, it breaks immersion. Halo 3 doesn't have this problem. The sound, be it ambient noises or gunfire, is used appropriately. Some games overuse sound and it sounds like cacophony. Halo 3 does it right.

Music: Great! Classical Halo music combined with new tunes, all of which brings you deeper into the experience. As I've said before, some games have music that, when you hear it, you know exactly where it comes from. Halo 3 is one of those games.

Story: Great! No spoilers coming from me, but this is everything a Halo fan could have wished for! Bungie even decided to put the warthog drive-for-your-life sequence in the final stage as an homage to Halo 1!

Stability/Bugs: I didn't notice anything major. Nothing game breaking. In fact, I can't recall even encountering one.

Opinions: None
