“The most important reason for going from one place to another is to see what’s in between, and they took great pleasure in doing just that.” -Norton Juster (The Phantom Tollbooth)

Barrett and I made some great memories here the year before while completing the Standing Indian loop. This year, we picked up just a few miles North of where we left off, and just in time to admire the full display of Fall colors! We took great pleasure in see what was in between Winding Stair Gap and the Nantahala Outdoor Center. And I hope you take great pleasure in watching our three-day trip through the Gold Tunnel play out. For more stories from this adventure, read the trail journal on my blog: seagrasstosassafras.com/post/WSG2NOC
(This trip was taken in October 2022.)

Check out the itinerary I put together from this trip! Route details, resources I used to plan the trip, campsite and water source descriptions, elevation profiles, info for local shuttle providers, and MORE all in one neatly organized PDF. (While it isn’t a substitute for doing your own research and preparation, hopefully it will take the guess work out of planning your own trip.) seagrasstosassafras.com/product-page/WSG2NOC
