Driver Slams Into Back of Travel Trailer, Taken to Kingwood, LIVINGSTON, December 30, 2022 - At approximately 12:15 pm on December 30, 2022, 38 year old Coy Carpenter, of Livingston (and his wife), were west-bound on Church Street (across from Melbo's store). Carpenter was pulling a large travel trailer when he was slammed from behind by a black Honda Accord driven by Daryl Waitschies, 45, of Houston. Waitschies was also west-bound (behind Carpenter). According to witnesses, Waitschies was weaving in and out of traffic and driving erratically when he slammed into Carpenter's travel trailer. Carpenter stated that he felt the impact and pulled across the intersection of Church and Houston into the parking lot of Melbo's store. Unbeknownst to Carpenter, Waitschies' car was hung up on his travel trailer as he dragged it into the parking lot. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department Heavy Rescue Unit, and Officers Jack Mueller, Chad Lilley, and Sergeant Dallas Early with Livingston Police Department. Waitschies was transported by ambulance to Kingwood Hospital with serious injuries. One lane on the east-bound side of Church Street was blocked during investigation and cleanup. Waitschies was cited for failure to control speed and driving with an invalid license. Waitschies' vehicle was recovered by LakeView Wrecker and will be store in Livingston.
