How to Wrap Cables, Cords, and Ropes

This video is about methods for wrapping cables, cords, and ropes. This video shows two methods. The first method is for ropes and is called the figure of eight coil. This works with most types of ropes and is easy to do with some practice. The second method is called the over and under technique, because it involves twisting the cable in one direction to make the first coil and under twisting it to make the next, and repeating this until all the cable is neatly coiled. This method is common among audio and video technicians and is a tried-and-true coiling method. It protects the wires inside the cables by preserving the capacitance and common-mode rejection ratio built-in by the manufacturer with a twist in the cable, and the shielding that encases the twisted pairs within. It allows the cable to lie flat when uncoiled and makes for easier and faster work.
