For the more serious gun carrier, we generally shoot with our non-dominate hand on occasion - such as the Dot Torture drill I demonstrated in a class several weeks ago and the Torture Dot drill I did on camera this week - but we rarely actually do more than simply move the gun over to our non-dominate hand to shoot a couple shots before moving on to other things, shooting normally.

It's important to also know how to manipulate a gun from beginning to end with the non-dominate hand, to include even carrying it and drawing it from our non-dominate side.

The day may come when your dominate side or hand is not functional and being familiar with this skill by having tried it ahead of a needed time is a good thing to have practiced (I'm still working up the courage to take an entire class as a student using my left hand...)

For the instructor types, it's also a reminder of how unfamiliar the handling, manipulation, and shooting can be, which is exactly how many brand new gun owners feel when they first come to us for training.
It's just awkward and unfamiliar, and it is helpful to be reminded of what that feeling is like for the beginners in our classes so we can understand better and empathize with those uncomfortable moments for our beginners.
