TTT 39.1 – Top 5 Linux Phones

Ok, not much has changed in this lineup vs the last time I talked about Linux Mobile. Development continues, but needs an infusion of cash to revitalize the teams who work on it. Our top 5 are the Librem 5 (I still struggle to believe that this one is real and not vaporware of some sort), the PinePhone & PinePhone Pro, the F(x)tec Pro 1X, the Volla Phone, and the Fairphone 4. These are all decidedly mid-range devices, if not on the low end when compared to their Android brethren. By the way, Android is Linux, just with a whole lot of JavaScript juju on top of it to make it look pretty, and a host of closed source firmware blobs. I will be the first one to jump for joy when Linux Mobile matures as a platform and can genuinely offer real competition to Android and iOS, but that day is not today. This article basically lists the specs for the mentioned devices to hype them a bit. It caught my eye because it has been about a month since I talked about Linux Mobile, and wanted to kind of start the new year with a conversation about it.

we will stand strong in our belief in Jesus as our Lord and Savior. The enemy is
turning up the heat, or trying to, on anyone who stands up against the corruption in
our society, from the alphabet soup of sexual perversion, to divorce, to abuse, to
human trafficking, and all of the other things that the Church has been mute about in
large part for the last 50 years. This is whether it is due to the 501C.3 and Johnson
Amendment or due to complicity in these heinous crimes which are being revealed to us right now.

TTT 39.2 – Unity 7.7 Coming with Ubuntu 23.04

You all heard my feelings about Unity, at least the old school one, yesterday when I laid into Ubuntu Unity. I have not taken the time to look at it since then, so I’m kinda down on this development. On the other hand, I don’t want to crap too much on the very excited, young developer who picked up the otherwise dead project. I am torn. Just because I did not like it when I tried it about 10 years ago, doesn’t mean that it has no place in the ecosystem, now. After all, Linux is about choice, even if your idea of aesthetics or utility doesn’t jive with mine. You be you, and I’ll be me. What’s new in the new version?

• A return to Lomiri styling for the dash and panel
• UWidgets
◦ Possibility for desktop widgets written in python
◦ Better app integration
◦ Panel flexibility, so you can move the location of the application launcher button to open the dash, among other things
Interesting stuff, not sure that I’ll ever use it in general, but I’m glad to see more choices being brought back into possibility.

TTT 39.3 – PeaZip 9.0

What is PeaZip, anyway? It is a cross-platform, FOSS archiving tool. It has support for pretty much all of the archiving formats, from 7zip, zip, tar, rar, to zpaq, there are also these new changes:

• Improved User Interface.
• Enhanced Support for Various Formats.
• Performance Improvements.
• New options for 7z/p7zip backend.
• Improvements to Plugins.

This sounds like an intriguing alternative to ark in KDE, and you can use it on any desktop you want, no matter the OS.
