Babies are born with limited vision, which develops rapidly in the first few months of life. Showing them high contrast black and white images can help support their visual development.

According to some research, exposing babies to high contrast images during their first few weeks of life can benefit their visual development.
- A study published in the journal "Developmental Science" discovered that showing newborns high contrast black and white images increased neural activity in the brain's visual cortex, indicating that their brains were actively processing the visual stimuli.
- An additional study published in the journal "Current Biology" found that babies exposed to high contrast black and white images in the first few weeks of life had better visual acuity (sharpness of vision) at 3 months of age than babies who were not. The images were displayed to the babies in this study for 2-3 weeks.
- Another study published in the journal "Developmental Science" observed that newborns who were exposed to high contrast black and white images for 5-10 minutes per day had better visual processing abilities at 2 months of age than babies who were not.
While these studies suggest that exposing babies to high contrast images may be beneficial, more research is needed to fully understand the impact of these images on visual development. It's also critical to provide a wide range of visual experiences and activities to help with overall visual and cognitive development.
