NPR's PARTISAN Coverage of Diversity Training Guidelines

Former President Donald Trump didn't ban diversity training with an executive order, though NPR made great efforts to convince listeners that he did.

In this story, “Agencies, Contractors Suspend Diversity Training to Avoid Violating Trump Order,” the NPR reporter speaks to activists offended by the order and allows their comments to stand without inspection. One activist says Trump’s order means fighting racism is now “anti-patriotic.” Another says the content of Trump’s order is “fascist propaganda.” Reaching the height of irony, one activist expresses concern that the order “threatens free speech in academia.”

The reporter creates a frightening image of the consequences of limiting Social Justice ideology in government diversity training. But she offers a glimmer of hope at the end: “Of course, if Joe Biden were to take office in January, he could undo the order with the stroke of a pen.”
