17 Dead In Japan Snow Chaos

Huge deluges of snowfall have struck northern parts of Japan, leaving 17 people dead, dozens more injured, and hundreds of households without power, according to disaster management officials Monday.

Many of the fatalities occurred after people tried clearing snow from their rooftops, or being buried by sudden falls of snow sliding off rooftops.

Some areas reported three times their usual snowfall, while a transmission tower was knocked offline on the country’s northernmost main island.
