If you look into the history, you'll find that there was no early church celebration of the birth of Jesus. Speculation about it began about 350 years later, which provokes some opposition. But several proposals were made for the date of the birth of Jesus: March, April, November, December, and January were all proposed as dates, but people stuck with December the 25th in the Western church, based on the Roman Catholic Church calendar and January the 6th in the Eastern Church based on the Eastern Orthodox Church dating. To this day, Christians in the West, whether Catholic or Protestant, celebrate Christmas on the 25th of December and Christians in the East Russian Orthodox, Greek Orthodox tradition, celebrate Christmas on the 6th of January.
