How a NICS Denial or Delay Might Earn You a Visit from Law Enforcement

Washington Gun Law President, William Kirk, discusses the implementation of HR 2417, an appropriations act which provided additional funding to the ATF, FBI and DOJ to significantly upgrade their NICS system AND to require the ATF to notify all local law enforcement agencies in the event that a person is either denied a purchase or is delayed. While this is not a significant change in laws for Washington residents, as RCW 9.41.114 required all Washington state FFLs to immediately notify local police in the event of a denial, this is a seismic shift for many other lawful and responsible gun owners nationwide. This law goes into effect October 1, 2022 so arm yourself with education today.
