Princess Diana's condition was critical, but it wasn't fatal, and former President Ronald Reagan actually made a full recovery from a similar wound after being shot by John Hinckley in 1981! If a 70-year-old man could survive such an injury, why couldn't a 36-year-old woman in good health?
The French doctors who worked with the team that attempted CPR on Princess Diana at the hospital after the crash said that the internal bleeding that ultimately led to her death was caused by a tear in the left pulmonary vein; no other particular abnormalities were identified.
