When the last western Roman Emperor Romulus Augustus was deposed by Odoacer, it is commonly taught that the Wester Roman Empire ended. But wait, the last rightful Western Roman Emperor was Julius Nepos, and he continued reigning in Dalmatia, so Dalmatia was a Western Roman remnant that remained under Roman rule until Julius Nepos' death in 480 AD. But wait, there was the kingdom of Soissons, the realm of Syagrius, which was a Western Roman remnant that remained under roman rule until Syagrius' death in 486 AD. But wait, there was the Mauro-roman kingdom, that was under rule of romano berber kings after the invasion of the Vandals in 429 until 578, when it was re-incorparated into the now Eastern Roman Empire. But wait, after Constantinople fell, there was still the Empire of Trebizond which fell as late as 1461. But wait, there was the principality of Theodoro, that fell only in 1475. But wait, there was despotates of Epirus and Morea, and Vonitsa, the last byzantine stronghold of Epirus fell as late as 1479 AD, thus marking the official end of the last roman remnant state, 2232 years after the founding of Rome.
