Darksiders II Death Initiative Montage 2022

In 2020 I played Darksiders II and had to wait a very long time to find the opportunity to finish these montages for it. Darksiders II Death Initiative Edition was an amazingly epic game. It was very different from the first Darksiders. It was several times as long, had better graphics and was one of the most difficult games I've ever played. It was so much more difficult to beat than the first Darksiders game, but it was fun all the same.

Unfortunately I made the critical error of recording every single moment for the entire play through of the game which is in part why it took so long to complete and also why this video turned out this long. All footage is from my first play through of the game, so you will notice some of my mistakes and how I start off with little skill at the beginning but by the end of the game have mastered the deathly art of Darksiders battle. I do wish the mechanics had been more similar to the first game, but the second game is very much its own standalone story and that applies to all aspects including gameplay. And yet it ties in beautifully with the first game and the overarching story.

My official review of the game:
It is an epic, vast-scale dramatic game. It is very atmospheric and much darker in theme and tone than the first or third, which fits perfectly because it is Death's story. I thoroughly enjoyed it and felt it added a lot to the greatness of the first game. I did feel they had way too many side quests and were dragging out the story too long, but I've always played games for the story and I usually just want to focus on the main story line and save extra stuff like side quests for later replays. And I was hot off the previous game and hoping to see what happens next... I was disappointed at first, but over time grew to fully appreciate what they were doing with the series.

I now am fully aware that all the games aside from the prequel take place roughly in parallel before the events at the end of the first Darksiders. I think this is an awesome, interesting and unique way to tell a story and to make a video game series. Out of all 3 of the Darksider games, I still say the first was by far the best, the most polished and dramatic and epic. It was very condensed in a super good way, it was pure distilled epicness. But at the same time, all the subsequent games are really very good, but what they are primarily best at is enhancing the story and grandeur of the first game ironically. Each one I've played has added more gravity and drama to the events of the first game, and increased my excitement and anticipation for the eventual conclusion to the series which I hope we get soon after DS 4 which should be Strife's game.

Darksiders II was a masterfully done game. Some of the ways it did improve over the first game was an unforgettable and truly epic soundtrack, high quality graphics, and a much larger more cinematic world and atmosphere. DS II was a very atmospheric game, which I absolutely love, though it may be a turn-off to some that come straight from finish DS one and switch to a sequel that feels totally different. But it is a good thing that each game has been so different, to highlight the differences between each rider of the apocalypse themselves.

Upon spending countless hours editing these videos, I began to gain enormous appreciation for the second game. I enjoyed it a lot when I first played it, but over time reviewing the story and my own game play clips, it has grown on me even more. It is a masterpiece and a true classic that I will never forget.

I highly recommend this game to all who enjoy the first installment. And I eagerly await news of the final two games and can't wait to see the epic conclusion of the Darksiders franchise.
