12-Car Trains at Jamaica, Directional Conflicts on the Main Line - LIRR/Metro N. Cmte 12/19/22

The LIRR has had twelve-car trains 1,020 feet long stopping at Jamaica for the past 50 years. Yet only two station tracks out of eight have signals positioned so that all the doors can be stopped opposite the platforms. I'd say it's time to relocate some signals, but instead they want to relocate all the platforms for a couple of billion.

Ladder tracks are something used in terminals and yards but these high speed crossovers (called ladder tracks in board materials, and therefore by the board) have recently been added to the LIRR Main Line for crossing between tracks with traffic running in opposite directions. Not a good idea. They are probably the fastest crossovers found on the LIRR at this point. Two crossovers, four switches, several millions worth.
