Michigan to Texas - Driving 1250 miles in a deleted Jetta TDI for $115

Real world test of driving my 2010 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen TDI 6-Speed manual from Michigan to Texas, car is deleted, stage 2 tune, cold air intake, running winter blend fuel. I have some business to take care of in Texas and in efforts to save $$$ I decided to drive down instead of flying. How much can you save driving vs flying you ask? A month before the flights was priced at $780 (DTW to AUS) + oversized baggage fee $460 + parking at the airport $140 + uber to & from destination in Texas $220. Totaling ~$1600 in travel expenses.

Since I have the flexibility in my schedule, I figured why not save $1370 and just drive both ways! Cost to drive round trip is ~$230 at current fuel prices. After completing the one way its cheaper for me to drive 1250 miles from Michigan than uber from the closest airport (AUS) to my destination in Fayetteville TX.

I would love to try and repeat this drive with an electric car, I'd be very curious to compare the costs and charging downtime. I'm still a firm believer that diesel is the answer but I'm open to having my mind changed.

Let me know what you like to listen to while on long drives in the comments section!
