Germany's government has reached a compensation agreement with the bereaved Israeli families of the victims of the 1972 Munich Olympics massacre.
This news was announced in a joint statement made Wednesday by the presidents of both Germany and Israel.
While Germany has not officially announced the figures,... a report by S ddeutsche Zeitung said the compensation comes to roughly 28 million-U.S.-dollars.
The agreement comes after a previous compensation offer was rejected by the families, who threatened to protest by boycotting a ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of the tragedy.
It also marks the third and final round of payments made to surviving relatives after initial compensation in 1972, and later in 2002.
The Munich Olympics massacre saw Palestinian militants from the Black September Group kidnap members of the Israeli Olympic team.
11 Israelis and a German policeman were killed, as well as five of the militants.
