SERMON NOTES

There is Joy in his Name!
Luke 4:17-21

'And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord .” Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” '

I. He is the bringer of Joy
 Imagine being one of the ones that were in the synagogue that day. To many this would sound absurd, but to others this is a message of Joy!
 To know that there is deliverance available and it is found in Jesus!
 Hear these words that the angles sing at his birth:

Luke 2:13-15
'And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.” '

II. Jesus is the proclaimer of Joy
 Jesus in the passage that He was reading from was letting them know that it was about Him.
 Now keep this in mind, he could have been arrogant, He could have been prickly, He could have even been disrespectful!
 But He is humble, HE is joyful, He is the one Proclaiming that Salvation is available!
John 4:21-26
'Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, He will tell us all things.” Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am He. ”'

 The Samaritan woman was not expecting this encounter. But more so than that she was not expecting His answer!
 When we continue reading this story, we see the effects of the Joy she has. The town comes and sees what she is talking about and they come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ!

III. I thought I told you that Joy don’t stop, I thought I told you that Joy don’t stop!!
 The Apostle Paul writes about this Joy that Goes beyond all understanding
 In Romans He gives us a road that leads us to Joy But hear these verses:
Romans 3:23
'for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, '
Romans 5:8
'But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 6:23
'For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.'

IV. So how can I know this for myself?
 First know that that Salvation is only found in Jesus Christ.
Philippians 2:9-11
'Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.'
John 14:6
“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me”
Romans 10:9
'that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. '
 Choose Jesus today
Romans 10:13
For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”'
